Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) is a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance (green) buildings.  This presentation will focus on the U.S. Green Building Council’s “LEED 2009 for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance” (LEED 2009 EB O&M).  It will review the various prerequisites and credits, and discuss some of the industry standards and guidelines incorporated into the rating system.  The U.S. EPA Energy Star program and it's impact on Energy and Atmosphere Prerequisite 2 and Credit 1, will also be discussed.

Georgia Tech North Avenue Apartments: An Overview

Description:

This session will provide an overview of the Georgia Tech North Avenue Apartments project in Atlanta, Georgia which is pursuing LEED certification through the US Green Building Council. The project consists of a 2,000 student-500 apartment complex and two parking garages on eight acres. The project is nearing the end of the performance period, completing its commissioning, and installing a cistern system with storm water harvesting and treatment for irrigation. The student apartments were built as a part of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and are now operated by Georgia Tech. Eighteen projects were implemented to improve the building’s performance and complete repairs and upgrades for optimum operational efficiency and comfort for the students. This presentation will provide an overview of various components of the project, resulting surveys, graphics and other information relating to the project and LEED certification process.

Part 1: Many gadgets have promised zero bleed and/or no chemical treatment. Most quickly fail. Finally we have reliable, reproducible non-gimmick system that allows zero bleed operation and cuts out 90-95 of chemical treatment.

Part 2: A review of current regulations in the US and other countries with a determination of best industry practices for commercial and healthcare facilities.
